2012-2013 NCAA Rule Book

The below information is courtesy of NCSA Athletic Recruiting.  NCSA does a great job of providing information and support for families, and if you have not at least signed up for their Free site, I strongly encourage you to do so.

Below you will find an outline of the most important changes, however, I strongly encourage you to read the guide front to back.

·         Page 7:

o   Eligibility Center Fees - Effective September 1, 2012 the registration fee for the will increase to $70  for US, US Territories and Canadian students and $120 for all other international students.

·         Page 8:

o   Fee Waiver Eligibility -  International students (students living outside of the US, Puerto Rico or US Territories) are not eligible for a fee waiver.

·         Page 9:

o   DI Academic Requirements

o   Courses with similar content may be deemed duplicative by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

o   Time Limitation on Core Courses (Please read this section).

o   College-bound student-athletes first entering a DI college or university on or after August 1^st, 2016 will need to meet new academic rules in order to receive athletics aid, practice, or compete during their first year (Please read this section).

·         Page 19: Delays Full-Time Collegiate Enrollment and Participates in Organized Competition

o   Effective August 1, 2012 – Sports Other than Men’s Ice Hockey, Skiing and Tennis:  You have one year after high school graduation (i.e., grace period) to enroll full time at a college or university or you will lose one season of competition for each calendar year during which you continue to compete in organized competition.

·         Page 23-25: Contact Rules

o   DII

§  A coach may begin sending you printed recruiting materials June 15 before your junior year in high school.

§  No limit on number of calls by college coach beginning June 15 before your junior year.

§  A college coach can have contact with you or your parents/legal guardians off the college’s campus beginning June 15 before your junior year.

o   Official Visits

§  Allowed beginning opening day of classes your senior year.

§  You may make only one official visit per college and up to a maximum of five official visits to Division I colleges.  There is no limit to official visits to Division II colleges.
