I recently retired after 15 years of NCAA Women's Division I Volleyball Head coaching and am focused on developing collegevolleyballcoach.com into the #1 destination for VolleyFamilies and VolleyFans!
I created the collegevolleyballcoach.com site a number of years ago for two reasons; 1) To provide information and to answer questions about the often confusing world of college volleyball and recruiting, 2) To have a venue to express my opinions about the sport of volleyball and collegiate athletics.
Each summer, I do a large number of volleyball camps at high schools across the USA (I call them my Volleyball Road Camps; please contact me if you are interested in a camp!), and without fail, I am asked many, many questions from players, families and coaches about college volleyball recruiting. I believed that if I was getting so many questions from volleyball campers, then these answers could help a number of other families trying to understand the craziness of collegiate volleyball and recruiting.
Also, I just wanted a forum to vent about many challenging aspects of collegiate volleyball and collegiate athletics. I have, and will continue to abstain from directly criticizing individuals, but I am not hesitant to critique organizations which can do more for our sport and its families.
Be assured that I am not a faux volleyball coach:
2 time NCAA Champion at UCLA.
MVP of the National Championship my Senior year.
3 time All American Setter.
USA National Team Setter.
2 years playing Professional Volleyball in Europe.
5 year touring member of the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour.
Assistant Volleyball Coach at Clemson University, the University of Iowa and U.C. Santa Barbara.
Head Volleyball Coach at The University of Iowa, The University of Tulsa, Newberry College and Louisiana Tech University.
Head Volleyball Coach of the Guaynabo Mets of the Puerto Rican Women's Professional League.
I will provide the readers with honest, accurate and direct information about the realm of college volleyball, athletics and recruiting.
My name is Matt Sonnichsen, and I am The Coach!
